چکیده

The application of the fluorescein-labeled anti body as an immunohistochemical stain by the methods developed by Coons and co-workers (2) has brought a new dimension to histology. With the fluorescein-label technic, it is possible to demonstrate antigenic elements in common among various tissues and to determine the cellular loca tion of these elements. This technic can be of major importance in connection with the compari son of the composition of cancer tissue with normal tissue. If antiserum prepared against a neoplasm stains the neoplastic cells but does not react at all with cells of a particular tissue, one may use this as an indication that the neoplasm either was not derived from that tissue or had lost all its crossreacting components. The latter situation does not seem probable. Moreover, if it is assumed that a neoplasm arising from a particular tissue will still maintain antigenic components similar to its origin, i.e., will not have lost all the original com ponents in transformation to neoplasm, then it would be possible for an investigator to determine from which tissues the tumor might be derived. In the work reported here, a study was made of antibodies prepared against human epidermis and also antibodies prepared against a human malig nant melanoma.

Evaluation of Diagnostic Values of EMA and Ber-Ep4 in Distinction between Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Skin

Background and Objective: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) are two common tumors of the skin. In some cases, distinction between BCC and SCC can be difficult. This study aimed to clarify this uncertainty through immunohistochemical analysis. In this respect, epithelial membran...

Immunohistochemical expression of CD10 in cutaneous basal and squamous cell carcinomas

Background: Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common malignant tumor in humans. The role of ultraviolet radiation is well-known in the pathogenesis of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). CD10 is a zinc-dependent metallopeptidase known as common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA). Although CD10 expression has been investigated in some cutaneous tu...

An Immunohistochemical Study of Cyclin D1 Expression in Astrocytic Tumors and its Correlation with Tumor Grade

Background & Objective: Glioblastoma-multiforme is the high grade form of astrocytic tumors with a short survival time, which are the most common type of brain tumors. Therefore, finding new therapeutic options is essential. Cyclin D1 is expressed in some human malignancies and can be a potential target for therapeutic intervention. The aim of the present study was to determine...

Granulosa Cell – Stromal Tumors: An Immunohistochemical Study Including Comparison of Calretinin and Inhibin

Background and Objective: Histopathological evaluation of granulosa cell tumors (GCT) of the ovary may be confused morphologically with a wide variety of the tumors. Immunohistochemical staining for inhibin and calretinin can be used for better diagnosis. Although it has been suggested that inhibin can be a sensitive marker for GCT, it maybe had negative results in some cases.  In addition, cal...
